Barras at the Bandshell
The park slowly filled up with people of all ages and ethnic origins, but predominantly over-50s. There were quite a few younger kids there, skateboarding and riding bikes and they stayed for the show.

Finally 7 PM came and the Barras arrived on stage front and center, opening with my favorite Barras set of tunes - the
Clumsy Lover Set. Some day when I get serious about the fiddle again, I will learn how to play that!
Once when Andi and I saw Kyle and Sheumas playing at the Feis in the village of Christmas Island, Cape Breton, we spent the night giggling as they went thru set after set commenting, "we've forgotten the names of the tunes in this set, but there's a jig, a strathspey and two reels."

Forgive me but I can't remember the name of the next set of tunes, but I recognized the tune and Lucy danced for us!
Very nice to hear Coaltown Road at the beginning of the concert. This acapella song highlights their wonderful voices and introduces some background as it tells about coal miners in Cape Breton. The family comes from the town of Sydney Mines in Cape Breton, so they are all too familiar with the meaning. And they knew that they were bordering on Pennsylvania coal country here, mentioning the PA coal mining tradition.
They followed with Don't Call Me Early by Tommy Sands. That's a theme song in our house for my daughter who is a bear getting up in the morning. Stewart got the audience to participate in singing the chorus, "Don't call me early in the morning, call me what you want to but leave me alone. Don't call me early in the morning, leave me till the cows are coming home." Stewart does a very good cow imitation at the end, too!
