He is fiercely Newfoundlander and has been seen wearing a shirt which says "Free NFLD." So it was a small step to agree to form a band whose main job was to bring Newfoundland folk music to the world. And that he has done! A sea shanty singer extraordinaire, Sean captures the heart of many a concert goer with his renditions of "General Taylor" and "Hanging Johnny" as well as the trad song, "The Night Pat Murphy Died." Sean's own songwriting ability is evidenced in the beautiful melodies of "Feel It Turn," "Widow in the Window," "Summer" and "Love,"to name but a few. He plays bodhran, shakers, and guitars in the band. But his best instrument is his voice, a wonderful tenor/baritone. He has been known to dance all over the stage at a show and tries his darnedest to make Alan laugh at every opportunity. He and Alan often feed off each other at shows, one trying to outdo the other. He can also be seen as moody onstage, as evidenced by his aloof manner at times.
Sean makes a rare appearance after the shows to meet and greet but once you get him talking...you won't have to say much! Always photogenic, too.
Sean is married with two boys, and dogs that reveal the reggae influence - Marley and Tosh. In fact, Tosh (Tells No) Tails is Sean's alter-ego blog on GBS's website. Check it out. A most famous beagle/bassett with separation issues.
When he's not touring with the band, Sean says he likes to cook, hike and mountain bike. His dogs are often his hiking companions. |
