After Lukey they truly needed a break, mopping up with the towels provided by the ballroom. Both Alan and Sean fortified themselves with the Red Stripe beer. Someone apparently asked him about his nametag, and Alan all of a sudden says, “I’m with the band!” It was some sort of backstage pass that he was wearing on his pant leg for some reason.

“We’re not sponsored by Red Stripe!” explained Alan as he sipped from his bottle of beer.

“Not yet!” quipped Sean, as he sipped his beer. People were calling out song titles and Alan said “No need for requests, we’re playing all the hits.”

“You mean all the hit. We’re playing all the hit,” insisted Sean.

“Hey congratulations! I believe your team won!” Alan smiled. “Blame it on Jessica Simpson. All her fault for tiring him out. He can’t focus. His mind’s not on the ball, so-to-speak.” Someone in the audience yelled “Homo for Romo!” Alan commented on how clever the phrase was and he had never heard that in Newfoundland. He noticed Karen in her Cowboys jersey amidst the sea of Giants and sent his condolences to the “pretty girl in the cowboys jersey.” He asked her if she was crazy to wear it here and they carried on a little conversation about it. Alan insisted it looked a little like a cheerleaders outfit.

Then he proceeded to dedicate the next song to her, a relatively new one called
Walk on the Moon. It went over very nicely with several of the audience members lighting their lighters and swaying to the song. GBS’s new torch song. . I swore he sang right to Karen for a while. She confirms this is true! A favorite line? “I’m alive and I’ve got one shot and I’m taking it to you.”

Sean was possessed for this song tonight. Even though it's blurry, I need to include this photo as an indication of the intensity with which he sang
Paddy Murphy.
It sure seemed as if he sang to her for quite a while!
After Walk on the Moon, Alan introduced Sean as coming from Gull Island, adding, “All good things come from Gull Island.” Gull Island sure is a nice place. I was there this summer and met some very hospitable people! Check here to see it and read about the adventures of Anne and Candace in Gull Island.

Paddy Murphy’s intro from Sean was, “This is a song about a dead man…I carry him in my back pocket like a little voodoo doll.” And tonight Alan was feeling gay (Alan had something to say about that!) and the New York girls got loaded drunk.
Lighters in the crowd with a couple cell phones lit up, too.
