After Charlie Horse, they put away instruments and stepped up to the mics. I wasn’t sure which a capella song we’d get here, (I was hoping for River Driver) but I didn’t have to wait long to find out – it was General Taylor! That song is loved by New Yorkers it seems. The audiences in New York City can’t be beat for singing it with enthusiasm. Here’s a link to a video I took while he sang it. Gotta love how Sean plays with the crowd. (those girls he sang to had to be in 7th heaven!) Gotta love Bob's military stance at the mic. Gotta love how casual Murray is. Gotta also love the sound of a ballroom full of people singing back at him. General Taylor in NYC can't be beat!
Scolding Wife came next and my mind wandered (and wondered), thinking how they decided on the setlist. It seemed like an old-school show with some newer tunes. I found myself missing the quieter folk songs from Newfoundland. I’m pretty sure the next album is like to be more like Something Beautiful than The Hard & the Easy. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m a folkie through and through though, so my favorites have folk tendencies. Now why I had to think about all this during this trad song that I love, I’ll never know. But it was fun watching potential mischief as soloists sang their parts. Kris is downright dangerous in that department!
Here's Alan singing: "I came into a scolding wife a few short years ago..." while Murray and Kris plan to take over the world... |
