We ended up at the train yard where there were some Appalachian and Ohio railroad diesel engines waiting to do their thing. Marcus, my oldest son, has a thing for trains so I went out to take a few shots. I found a Union Pacific engine as well as several Bangor and Aroostook ones in the back. A little far from their bases! While there, I went into a little Craft store to find some souvenirs for Jim. I took Vic’s cell phone in with me and asked her to speak into the phone on the Republic Of Avalon Radio line for the podcast. She was puzzled but agreed and said maybe she’ll check it out. The other lady inside looked askance at me and backed away. I guess that’s what any sane person would do! I got a kick out of thinking of things to surprise Jim with. And anyone who knows me will tell you I'm not shy.

It was lunchtime and we drove around looking for a local place to eat. They had a McDonald's but you can get that anywhere, so we looked for other places. We found The Island Eatery, a Carribbean place as we drove around - another Fidler connection. Notice the palm tree on the window at the right. Lillian just came back from visiting Barbados, so it seemed to be another "non-coincidence."

Stopping for lunch at Neka’s Pizzaria, we couldn’t help but notice the mural on the wall depicting Neka’s family’s journey from the Old World, Italy to the Terra Nova. But instead of Newfoundland as the destination country as was the case with Jim’s roots, the Statue of Liberty beckoned Neka’s ancestors to New York City. Another FIdler connection, as Jim has a song that is one of my favorites, called Terra Nova. By the way, the calzones are delicious at Neka’s – look ‘em up in Buckhannon when you go. It was at Neka’s that I had my next brainstorm. Poor Vic! He’s been putting up with my hair-brained ideas for 37 years now, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise. I asked the man behind the counter if I could see his phonebook. There were 11 Fidlers in there! And guess what? One of them was listed as “Jim Fidler!” Not J. Fidler or James Fidler, but Jim. Well, I just HAD to look the man up. We wrote down the address and asked for directions and off we went. Vic just shook his head and said, “I’ll stay in the car. Don’t be surprised if you are greeted by a shotgun.”
