GBS at Bumbershoot
Mari Mac - Not a fast version but the audience knew their part well. Séan seemed pleasantly surprised by this.

Ordinary Day - Bob started the Bouzouki part and Séan's tipper promptly flew out of his hand and across the stage towards the back. He scrambled for it and got himself together. At the end of the song, Alan had the audience take the chorus on their own and his face was priceless! He seemed awed by the audience loving the song and singing it so well. He surveyed the audience a whispered "Thank you. Thank you so much" into the mic. He looked a little choked up even!

Encore #1 - the chant "GBS! GBS!" started even before they had completely left the stage.
Excursion! - I just love the bodhran part to this! Not to mention Darrell's singing and Bob's harmonies and Alan's making a fool of himself.
Feller From Fortune+ - a little tighter than the last time I heard it but still not as "WOW!" as Auntie Mary. We got the fiddle, a chorus, then the accordion.

Encore #2 - they HAD to know it was coming!
Rant and Roar intro to EOTW - Kirk from Newfoundland who was standing in the front row got a tad misty-eyed during this. And Alan sang a verse I had never heard before in addition to the normal one. I cannot tell you what the words were though. I was so shocked I was hearing a new verse! EOTW had the Ode To Joy in the middle of it with Alan on the bouzouki with the melody, Séan playing chords, Darrell and Bob doing harmonizing stuff on bass and bouzouki. AND...Bob spoke! He yelled "And how are ya feelin' tonight?" at the end.
The intros at the end signaled that they were not coming back out. And Bob introduced Alan as "On lead vocals, guitars and bouzouki, Mr. Alan Doyle from Petty Harbour." Alan called Darrell "the Holy Man, Darrell Power, the Pope of Outer Cove."

Saying "Thank you" for our singing along
Stood there afterwards and Gracie gave Danny the books she had brought for Séan and Bob. Watched Danny do his usual no nonsense patented clean-up afterwards. I heard the Bumbershoot Staff person talking to someone on his radio. He said, "This GBS crew really knows what they're doing! My job here is done already! They are my new idols!" Sunflower, Gracie, Mom and I met up with Manuela, Fred, Daffy, Karyn, Monica and Fred in front of the stage. Mom's comment? "This was a much better show than Friday in Portland! They had much more energy!"

Then we went back to find Alan and Darrell out to meet and greet. Bob and Séan were laying low somewhere although gracie saw Bob carrying her book. :-) There were about 2 dozen people backstage. Diane felt the hair soft against her cheek and Gracie insisted on a pic with the back of Alan's head showing

. The security guy came out and told us to move over to the grassy area so they could back the van up to load. The guy kept repeating "we need you on the grass over there. " Most of us eventually moved but Alan was busy talking with some fans and didn't hear. Darrell went over to him and put his hand on Alan's back and said, "They want us to move on the grass." Alan looked up grinning and said, "They want us on the grass? Who? This could be real interesting!"

I brought Mom over to meet Darrell and Alan and told them that her first two concerts ever in her 85 year life had been Portland and Bumbershoot. Darrell said, "No kidding? Well! That calls for a celebration! How about joining us for a pint?" You know - no matter how hard I tried, I could not get my Mom to make eye contact with me at that point! She turns to Darrell and says, "No thanks, I don't drink beer." Then Alan walks over and Darrell says to him, "Hey! Marie's first concert was GBS this weekend!" Alan smiles broadly, shakes her hand and says," Wow! That's great! Wanna join us for a pint to celebrate?" Again, I frantically try to get her to make eye contact so I can tell her to say yes. But she says, "No thank you! He invited me too, but I don't drink beer." ARGH! The story of my life! She got her pic taken with both of them and I did too.

OMG! Alan smells sooooooooooooo good. And this was AFTER the show! I cannot emphasize how good he smelled. Oh yes! And the b'y is lookin' mighty fine! Not to mention Darrell. He was a joy to watch tonight. Darrell was just too friendly and accessible to fans and cute to boot! Oh oh! Maybe I should stand in front of Darrell next show!

Molly was so kind and drove us "home" to the retirement home where we were staying and then took Gracie home to Vancouver. Such a love! We really missed the wild Gracie after that! Just wasn't the same without her. Didn't spend much time partying after that 'cause I had to drive Diane back to the hotel  and we were leaving in the morning at 8:30 for the airport.
