Buffalo – The Windy City
I nominate Buffalo for this new title, heck with Chicago! While waiting for imanut(Sandy) to get to Darcy MaGee’s, I watched the line of Porta Potties get blown twenty feet toward the stage. Glad I wasn’t in there! We were there so early that Lynda hadn’t arrived yet! LOL! We did meet Mpulse and Jenny. Mike’s blue hair didn’t faze me in the least – I’ve seen it all in my house! They sat inside playing Flux. I was so puzzled by this card game where the rules change with each person’s turn. But after watching a few hands, they taught me how to play. As beginner’s luck would have it, I won my first hand! Now I’ll have to buy the game.
More and more people started arriving after Lynda finally got there and andi was anxious to get in line so we adjourned the party outside. She was the first and a couple of security guards mistook her for security! I stayed chatting with Imanut and her friend, Patty, both of whom I had met over the July 4th holiday in Philly. After Patty got her dinner, we joined the line-up. The b’ys were on stage and playing all sorts of things during soundcheck. We heard some brandly new songs that sounded very interesting. We heard When I Am King, Something Beautiful and another unnamed new Alan song( I think it was Shines Right Thru Me), some Def Leopard – it was interesting. Alan stated to the line-up that the show would be “full of Def Leopard intros tonight.” Everyone except Murray was in shorts. Alan had his hair tied back in a ponytail because of the wind.
A Canadian girl had a pair of boxers on outside her pants – sporting the maple leaf in a crucial place. She took them off apparently and waved them at the b’ys. Got some interesting comments from Sean and Alan about “raising the flag higher.”
As the line got longer and longer, we saw Alex from Italy, Bea, Carol Ann and her friend’s name which escapes me, they joined Andi and I, Imanut and Patty, Mpulse and Jenny, and Lynda and a few other faces I recognized but can’t put names to. I was surprised that the line-up was so large over an hour before the show. There were some rumors bandied about that the restaurant people would get to go in before us hapless ones in the line-up but it turned out OK. There were three lines being processed at the same time so we got where we wanted to be. It kept raining on and off and they covered most of the equipment with plastic. Every time I drive to Buffalo, it rains. |
