Anne & Andi's Gaelic College Adventures
Day 4 Continued
We traveled down to Baddeck. It is my second favorite place in Cape Breton – the first being the Highlands. Every time I visit that place I know THIS is where I want to retire to. *sigh* A house overlooking the lake in Baddeck would be just sinful. This is the view you get when you approach from the north.
There was a CAP center in Baddeck – Hooray! Now – we had to wait till 7 PM for access but that was no problem! We ate dinner at the Yellow Cello which plays Cape Breton and Newfoundland music in the background, went shopping along the main drag and generally had a good time. While waiting for the library to open from dinner, we chatted with a mate from the Bluenose II which was docked in Baddeck. She told us they sloshed the mast that day so she had some time to kill. Found out about a ceilidh at the Church Hall so decided to go there when we were thru at the CAP center.

What a nice set-up! They have these ceilidhs just about every night and you pay only $6 to get in. For 2 hours’ entertainment! Not a bad deal if I say so myself! They had Susan McLean from the Gaelic College playing piano, a fiddle player, a snare drummer and a guitarist. They were great. The lady taking tickets at the door couldn’t keep from dancing. Later one of them danced and a guy from the audience came up and told a story and another guy came up and played fiddle. He had brought his own bow – all $2500 worth of bow! Why in the world would a bow cost $2500? That was the question of the day for Wendy the next day.
