Spring at the Jersey Shore, 2003
We went down to the Jersey Shore today for a seashore fix. It was a beautiful day, more summer than Spring. Eighty degrees made for gorgeous beach weather until the wind began to blow. Sweaters came out in mid-afternoon but the sun stayed out too. A great day to take a ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

Karen drove down to Lewes, Delaware and I kept myself busy by writing down funny town names. On the way to the ferry we passed Skeeter Neck. I don't think I want to live THERE in the summer. They say the mosquito is New Jersey's state bird. I wonder how Delaware's "skeeters" compare?

Shortly before Skeeter Neck, we passed through Little Heaven. The next few towns told you how to get to Little Heaven - Killens Pond, Slaughter Beach and Broadkill Beach.

We got to the ferry in plenty of time. Karen wanted to drive onto the ferry so she did and we sat on the bow seats as the ferry crossed the Delaware Bay. This is Cape Henlopen Light with the Pilot's Association House on the beach behind it. Below it is the other lighthouse at Lewes. I forget its name. And the last lighthouse is the one in Cape May, New Jersey.
We drove up the Ocean Drive to Ocean City, New Jersey and saw some wildlife on the way.  The Heron was right by the roadside between Avalon and Ocean City. And the Laughing Gull surprised the heck out of me! I grabbed my camera to take a photo of the inlet as we paid our toll on the bridge and whipped around to find Mr. Laughing Gull staring me right in the face about 3 feet away! He squawked as I took his pic, but didn't fly off!
What a great day to be on the beach! There were a few hardy people out there. One group was huddled on a blanket with blankets and jackets thrown on them. But the best scene was this grandpop and grandchild playing on the beach.
Karen and I got artistic and were vying for good shots with the camera. The first was of the first glimpse of the beach close up for 2003. The second was the result of Mom telling kids to dump the shells from their bucket back onto the beach . The third was Mr. Herring Gull frolicking and the last one Karen's artistic eye searching for interesting patterns. Note the little bird feet in the last one.
