| Jack Hinks followed on the Donkey’s heels, with even more people rising to the occasion. Alan repeated the “so constantly thinks” line several times in the song, I was beginning to think that he had forgotten the words. |

| Everyone needed a break after Hinks and Alan obliged by taking a water break and announcing, “I am trying hard to be nice.” I have no idea what THAT was about, but then he was chatting about how it was a Friday night, in Washington DC, a sold-out show and he was feeling like a rock star. He gazed out over the happy crowd and told them how they’d love the new CD, the Hard and the Easy. At that point, the 6 people in the custom t-shirts stood up and Alan acknowledged them. The guys wore HARD shirts and the girls, EASY. On the back, the girls’ shirts said, “GIRLS WITH BEDROOM WINDOWS. What a great idea! Since they were stage Sean, it was a perfect spot to be noticed. They shone the lights on them so everyone could see. It was great!
“Notice the Hard and the Easy shirts,” said Alan. “The girls are the ones with bedroom windows. The girls are looking for…........oh never mind!” he chortled. |
| “Most of the songs in the first set will be Newfoundland folksongs from the Hard and the Easy. But the second set will totally depend on who wins the hockey game, Montreal or not.”
Sweet Forget-Me-Not’s proposal tale was told but tonight Séan’s grandfather ran away with an intern from the hospital. Later on in the show, Sean would admit that he and Alan had been to the doctor’s that afternoon for allergies. Allergies or no, it was a well-sung ballad. Kris’s accordion work was wonderful, and Murray’s stand-up bass was turned up so loud that it shook my seat! As he was ready to start the last verse of Sweet Forget-Me-Not, a guy in the audience yelled, “I LOVE this song!” Séan smiled and invited the audience, “Sing it with me!” So we all joined in the last verse. It was a Kodak moment for sure. |
