After the Harbourside Park concert, we set about decorating the Carriage Works for night #2 of AtlanticFest. Many people didn't even know where the pub was! We had to decorate the outside as well as the inside! Char from the OKP approached us and said "Hi." She asked if I had seen Danny, but that was earlier in the day at the Hava Java on Water Street. That coffee shop is quite the happening place! When we got home, Rose caught us up on all the gossip and told me about loving the view of Signal Hill from the Street, especially the fireworks on New Year's Eve. She pointed out all the homes for sale in the neighborhood, so I'd be tempted to buy one. LOL! Lunch was delicious - ham and cheese on croissants, and fresh bananas which Jim called "vegetarian sausages" and cracked us all up. Candace provided us with a great line! As she petted the cat, she declared how much she liked him and threatened to run off with him. She quipped "And that's how I get my tail!" As the day wore on, I developed a headache and my foot was throbbing. I lay down on the couch and tried not to fall asleep. I knew if I fell asleep, I'd be there for the evening. I had 'off' that night and was looking forward to seeing the performers I had missed the night before. Everyone else had supper but all I wanted was leftovers from lunch. Doug came over and I had a nice conversation with his Mom. It's been over a year since I'd seen them last. There was a session at Erin's that night before the Festival. I would have liked to have seen it, but I just couldn't get my act together! By the time we got to Erin's, I had missed Colin and Jackie was just finishing up. Many of the entertainers who didn't have to perform at that time were all down at Erin's watching the other performers. It was quite the sight to see! Darrell, Hugh, Mike and Dave were all there as well as Graham Wells and Billy Sutton. Scott Goudie had everyone's attention when he played - everyone enjoyed that blues guitar! The man is a natural opener or closer. Reminds me of that commercial - "When (insert name here) speaks, everyone listens."

Darrell's wife, Sandy, was in attendance tonight. I teased them about it being date night without the kids. A look of recognition crossed her face when when Darrell reintroduced me to her, "I remember hearing about you from Darrell," (Hmmm - maybe I should worry!). She asked if I'd been off he Avalon yet and she seemed surprised that I'd been to the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas as well as the triad (Fog-Twillingate-Moreton's Harbour), Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and Cornerbrook. She recommended Gros Morne and. I proposed that if I rented a Winnebago, I could pick them all up and go to Gros Morne. "You'd have to take the two kids, dog and cat too," she explained. LOL! Only if Vic were with me, too! We'd need a tour bus! Sandy and Darrell's sister watched his set and they kicked back and relaxed a bit afterwards. Erin's was his last venue that night and he could enjoy his time after his performance without running off. His set list tonight began with: Home Boys Home, defintiely a call to Newfoundlanders. He continued with a new one for me - Riding Down a Slippery Road, a blusey song. He bemoaned having to follow Scott Goudie, the Bluesman. "I always wanted to sing the blues," Darrell quipped, "Just not after Scott!" His guitar work was really nice on the song and I'd recommend Darrell continue writing blues songs. Another new one - Rollin' Across the Country - came next. It was good and I was happy to hear ythat more of his songs are being put out there for us to hear. He's a decent songwriter! When Johnny Came Back From the War was well sung after that. He's polished it to a shine at this point. His last song brought back fond memories of last year's AtlanticFest. Darrell spoke about Ger Wolfe from Ireland, a gentle soul, a soulful songwriter. "Every now and then, you meet someone who reminds you how to live," Darrell reminisced, "This song was inspired by Ger Wolfe, one such man." And he sang a great version of "Your Song."

See Darrell's reflection in the mirror at the right? Don and Nora were in attendance that night at Erin's. They were due to leave early in the morning on a flight that would eventually get them to Kansas. It was great to see them again and I am sure we'll do it next year - same time, same place!
