Mauzy Monday
I awoke to a cold, grey day. That's okay, it matched my mood. No one else was up so I decided to grab a coffee at Tim's and take a last trip over to Southside Road. I love the view of the city from there and you get the sounds and scents of the busy fishing industry.

Some fishing boats had gotten back a little while ago and they were cleaning the fish on deck. I had never seen anything like that, but the seagulls obviously had - they were noisily hanging around the boats, waiting for a handout. And fighting when they got one. The view of downtown was interesting. Two Navy boats had come in during the nightand were stern-to-stern at harbourside. Weird.
I sat at the small boat dock, enjoying the foggy view of St. John's. I truly don't mind the foggy weather, good thing, too, as we've had our share of foggy days this trip. This is the first trip that I've had more than a couple days of rain/fog. No problems though, it's all good!
I saw my first smart car on the way back to Jim's!

Jim and Lillian tried to lift my spirits and Gypsy protested my leaving by laying in my suitcase as I tried to pack. LOL! I caught Gypsy relaxing on the chair before I left for my last hanging-out with Candace.
Looking out the Narrows yielded this foggy view
These seagulls enjoyed the day no matter the weather
I called Candace to see if she was up to a visit before I left. She had to go to MUN to get loan papers signed. Man! Did we get a tour of the campus! First we had trouble finding the building on the letterhead. Then the very rude girl behind the desk at the Registar's Office sent us on a wild goose chase across campus, only to find the man we were supposed to see, gone - an hour before the office hours ended.

As it turned out, Candace didn't need to see that guy at all! SHe could have been taken care of in the first building we went to if the stupid worker in the Registrar's Office had LISTENED to what Candace had to do.
Before I dropped her back home, we went to say hello to Ken and Diane, our ham radio friends. I had been remiss in not visiting and was feeling pretty guilty about it. We sat in the living room and chatted with Ken for a while. He asked Candace if she had any friends in St. John's and she said, "Um...Jim and Lillian...? Anne?" Diane gave her their phone number in case she needed something or got stuck or in trouble. Typical Newfoundland hospitality or maybe I just know the right people! Before I left, Ken instructed me on how to tell moose in the road at night - the moose test is seeing 4 long vertical sticks in the road. He said it was too late once you could see the moose itself!

Lillian made a super-delicious supper. Sort of a shepherd's pie, but better. Jim called it comfort food and he was right. I felt surrounded by the love of friends and it sure was a good feeling. Left at 9:15 to get to the ferry by 11 PM.
