Road to Terra Nova 2007
Sandy drove me to Jim’s and they had left the light on for me. I dragged my suitcase up to the guest room, trying not to wake them. Guess who was there on the bed to greet me? Gypsy Cat! As soon as he saw me, he rolled over on his back to get his belly rubbed – exactly the way I had left him last year in August. It was a nice ‘welcome home’ from him. “Oh, you’re back? Scratch my belly!”
I awoke to the sun when Gypsy walked across my chest and scared me to death. Man! It had been 39C when I left home and now it was 13C in the sun. Niiiiice! I chatted a bit with Jim and Lillian then called the car rental place to be picked up. A nice young man came by and took me to the rental place, which was on the other side of town. A few minutes later, a Ford Fusion was mine for the duration. I am not a Ford fan but this car was really nice – plenty of room, a HUGE trunk, and air conditioning. I laughed at that – I sure could have used that 24 hours ago in Philly!

I called Candace to see if she wanted to go to Moo Moo’s with me. Would you believe they had partridgeberry ice cream at Moo Moo’s? You KNOW that’s what I got! I’d go anywhere for partridgeberries. And there’s no place like Newfoundland to feed my cravings. I hope I find a good partridgeberry pie this time around. I haven’t had one for 3 years! We sat outside Moo Moo’s and chatted a bit while enjoying our waffle cones.

But the first thing I did after that was to go up to Signal Hill. Gotta have my SH fix. It was beautiful in the sun as usual. I never get tired of going up there. Every time you go, there is something different – the color of the sky or water, the plants in bloom, animals or birds, whales, boats, people, wind, fog…

It was great to see Candace again after a year. She seemed so much more confident than last year when she first came up here. The place suits her well, I think.

What you can't see is the Republic flag flying proudly near the top of the hill - hence the inset.

Ladies Lookout is one of my favorite places on Signal Hill to sit and enjoy the area. The other two places are the old canteen under the Lookout and the wall in the parking lot.
Early this morning on the way from the airport, we had passed the Holiday Inn parking lot on Portugal Cove Road filled to the brim with motorcycles. They were having some convention in St. John's. Some of the cyclists stopped up at Signal Hill on this fine day.
The flowers in bloom on the hill are a sight to see and enjoy in the summertime.
The Signal Hill Trail was well-occupied with hikers today, taking advantage of the good weather.
