Terra Nova
Folk Festival 2007
After the festival came to an end, we headed into Glovertown to find the Pub 'n' Grub, where we'd eat our supper of chicken wings. We set ourselves up at a table near the middle of the place and watched the DJ set up for Karoake. Last year the DJ had added a bit to the Karaoke by playing his own bass guitar for whatever songs he was singing. But this year he was guitarless. The bar was crowded with people over 40. We settled down to our chicken wings and drinks and enjoyed each other's company. Shortly after midnight came the changing of the guard. By 1 AM, we were the only people in the room other than the bartenders who were over 30 years old. The bartender's daughter, Amanda, was first up for the karaoke, singing in a sweet, sultry, country voice. Boy, was she enjoyable to listen to! All she needs is a band and she could be performing at the festival or anywhere, for that matter.

For the next hour or two, we enjoyed watching people make idiots of themselves with the occasional great singer sprinkled here and there. I was glad to get back to the cabin at 3 AM as I was exhausted, and toddled up the stairs to my room while Vince, Jim and Lillian continued the evening downstairs. Vince told me the next day that they spent the next several hours solving all the world's problems. LOL! How easy the solutions seem at 5 AM with a few beers under your belt!

I woke to the tantalizing scent of brewed coffee, which called to me loudly. Joining Vince downstairs, he poured me a cup and we chatted at the kitchen table. He is accustomed to waking very early in the morning and had awakened at 9 AM today, even though he went to bed at 6 AM. We chatted about all manner of things and I found out that last summer I had heard the song he wrote for his daughter who was stationed in Afghanistan. I hadn't realized that he was the one who wrote the song! That was not the only song he'd written and has been over to Jim's to record others during the year. He's a good songwritier and I love to hear him sing some other songs of his. He brought his guitar along but didn't take it out, unfortunately. Maybe he'll put out a CD eventually.

Jim and Lillian rolled out of bed after noon and we all ate breakfast and waited for Candace and Sandy to arrive with Seamus, the dog. Vince drove Jim and Lillian to the festival organizers' place to get the needed part for his guitar so he could use it this evening for his session at the festival. They went in and got some supplies in Glovertown and arrived back after Sandy and Candace arrived at 5 PM. Turns out they had gotten turned around and took the wrong turn and ended off the TCH for an hour. I had made the same mistake last year on my way to the Ferry but had realized it right away.We moved the mattress into my room so the three of us could fit tonight. Gonna be interesting with Seamus here!

We had some time to sightsee so I took them down by the festival grounds and to a lookout over the estuary in Newman Sound.
After the brief sightseeing tour, we went back to the cabin and found everyone back from their adventures. Jim's guitar was fixed and all were hungry.

Mary Brown's chicken place was just down the road a piece and we had intended to get it to go and eat down by the Terra Nova River, like we did last year. But it began to rain harder and we decided to eat in the parking lot and go home afterwards to get ready for the show tonight.
Candace summoned Sandy and Seamus down to have an up-close look at the estuary. It was low tide and pretty muddy down there! They didn't let Seamus get too far.

A playground occupied a portion of the area and it had a really neat maze and a pirate ship to climb on. I made it thru the maze with Candace's help. Heh!
Jim, Lillian and Vince took a much-needed nap while Sandy, Candace, Seamus and I went down to the festival and caught the performance of Bill Johnson, among others. Bill is an...unusual...performer, singing his own songs and parodies in a most entertaining way - a real home-grown performer! His guitar solos were hilarious, with him going into "rock star" mode. For one song, he called people up to play homemade instruments, including some old-shoe percussion.
Bill donned a hardhat for his song about the Power Company, sang about being on the Wayne Ronstadt show and brought out the ugly stick for a grand finale of an encore. I don't know how old he is, but he's a panic, and worth looking up for the comic value alone! We had a good time watching him.
