Back on the Road Again
The wind was starting to blow a bit more as we left Alice's and I was anxious to get back to St. John's before dark, but it didn't stop us from pulling over to snap some shots when the photo opportunities presented themselves. I notice people walking back to Gull Island with towels and bathing suits, and I supposed they had walked down to Northern Bay Sands to swim. But I was wrong. I noticed a small river that flowed into Conception Bay. You could see where river met the sea from the road. So I got out to take a photo. I was mezmirized by the river and stood on the bridge a while, enjoying the sound of the water flowing hurriedly over the rocks.

All of a sudden, I heard screaming and scanned the horizon for someone in trouble. No worries! There, at the mouth of the river, was a swimming hole used by local teens. They were having a ball, as it turned out. I zoomed in a caught a swimmer in the swimming hole.
Candace and I stepped back into the car, only to turn off the road onto a gravel road to get a parting shot of Gull Island - the one seen on the previous page and here as well.

The road was surrounded by brush and trees except for what looked to be a small parking lot. I wondered what a parking lot was doing here, but didn't let that stop me from getting out to take a last photo of Gull Island. What I didn't know, was the video mode was on and I ended up taking a movie as well! Candace had complained the place was crepping her out so we didn't stay long. On the way out, we discovered it was a cemetary  - no wonder she was creeped out! The video is below. I don't think anyone but Candace and I would think it was scary. Guess you had to be there!

As we rolled past the towns on the way out, I noticed things I hadn't on the drive in! One was the striking appearance of towns that jutted out from the land - their own little peninsulas on the northwestern peninsula of the Avalon peninsula.

Sometimes I think too much!
White is a much more prevalent color of houses up here, very unlike the many-hued houses of St. John's. But a few brightly painted ones here and there made the scene interesting.

I believe the shot below is Salmon Cove. I took it because the church just dominated the whole scene - like looking at St. John's from Sounthside Road and having the Basilica overtake your sight first.
