What did I do Tuesday night? I have no idea! I must have been exhausted from the driving. I wrote not one thing in my journal!!!! But it was blowy and rainy and we watched a movie. That's all I remember.
Wednesday, August 22, 2007 For the past few weeks, a growing number of GBS fans from the OKP have been planning a meet-and-greet brunch for today. I've been here for almost two weeks, Robin came a week ago, Renata arrived last night, Sandy moved here in April and Candace last year. I had met everyone except Renata at some point or other outside Newfoundland! So we invaded Velma's and had a grand time. We were greeted by Mr. Lobster as we walked to our table. He was made up of shell pieces - mostly lobster pieces, with mussel feet and a mussel hat. We laughed talked and generally had a grand time at brunch. Lots of photos were taken but mine all turned out blurry!!!! What odds? Sandy left for home, Robin for her B&B, and Candace and Renata and I went to see the sights every tourist should see. First stop?????? Signal Hill! You had to ask????
It was drizzling all morning, but that didn't dampen my enthusiasm for Signal Hill. Candace took Renata all the way up the tower steps inside Cabot Tower and they had the best view of the city. I stayed in the Gift Shop and spent money. I love looking at what new things they have to offer! Always a good tee shirt design, but I had promised myself no more tee shirts. Books, jam and tea would have to do. (Like it was a real hardship! LOL!) After descending the winding staircase, the three of us went off to find other adventures.
We stopped and drove down Southside Road on the way to Cape Spear. After surveying the harbour, Candace and Renata went off to visit Fort Amherst while I sat in the car. My knee and ankle were killing me and it's a two-three block walk, so I stayed in the car, but sent the camera with them. So I got some photos of Ft. Amherst light and environs, but they are really Candace's photos. There was a steady rain falling as I waited, listening to the weather forecast for the province. Would you believe it was going to be 24 C in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and only 14 C here? THAT was weird! It was even warmer in St. Anthony's on the Northern Peninsula - 19 C! I was happy to be in the car. Especially when I happened on a GBS song on the radio while I was channel hopping. It was the one I hear most often in the Canadian provinces -Clearest Indication.
Looking over the side, inside the Narrows gives you an idea of the geology of the place. Below, something left over from World War II, when Ft. Amherst was really a fort, guarding the entrance to the city.
