Bound Down for Newfoundland
So we headed up the bay to Carbonear. I could not believe that it had 4 exits on the highway. Whoa! I was not prepared for it to be that big! It had a decent-sized hospital, all kinds of stores, blocks and blocks of streets. It was the first really big place outside of St. John’s we’d hit so far on our trip. I was expecting it to be a little outport like Petty Harbour. No way, hon! Carbonear is the metropolis of Conception Bay.

It was a special day there– It was Carbonear Day and we saw Ms. Carbonear walking around with her fan club. There seemed to be a lot of community-oriented stuff going on that kept parents and kids busy. We stopped by the museum, which is a converted railway station. It was dedicated to those men whose living was on the sea. They had all sorts of artifacts from ship life way back when but the strangest had to be this one – A stuffed rat! It was so bizarre to have a space dedicated to the rats, that I HAD to take the photo.

I could easily understand how the family of Sean McCann of Great Big Sea could have gotten so attached to the sea living there.
