Bound Down for Newfoundland
As we got our fill of Bird Island, we tooled around Witless Bay looking for whales. We had to travel quite far south to finally catch a glimpse of a whale but it ended up being a mother and calf!

They'd come up in tandem and we'd see two spouts, then they'd disappear for 3-5 minutes and it was a total guessing game where they'd appear. A few times Mama breached and we got a tail wave. It was great to see her taking care of her calf. Here are the photos I was able to grab.

We spent so much time looking for whales that we had doubled the length of the tour. It started to get really windy and a tad chilly on the way back. The seas were a little rougher but that didn't stop people from getting screeched in. I declined. I have no desire to down a glass of Screech, kiss a fake puffin's butt and say,"Long may yer big jib draw."

Darrell, our resident storyteller/songweaver/deckhand, entertained us on the way back with trad Newfoundland songs and on the intercom we heard
Sea of No Cares from GBS and a bunch of songs from the new Punters CD. I went and bought it right there onshore I liked it so much. Hope people did the same for Great Big Sea.

I was so cold I needed a bowl of Newfoundland pea soup and a hot chocolate at the restaurant there. Mmmmmm, it was as delicious as I remembered from last year. We had to get back in time for Bridie Molloy's, Jim and Chris and Thierry are playing there tonight . Vic was not feeling well and dropped me off in front of the bar. I feel like a Downtown Girl.
