Bound Down for Newfoundland
Of course the day dawned too soon and we decided to go to O'Brien's Boat Tours down in Bay Bulls. We had really enjoyed our ride with the O'Brien's last time we were up to Bay Bulls before and I now had a better camera - the better to take puffin photos with, my dear! It was a tad chilly so I brought my St. John's hoodie with me. Boy, was I glad I did! It got very windy by the time we got back. It's supposed to be an hour and a half out on the water. You get a trip to Bird Island to see the thousands of seabirds there and they guarantee whale sightings. So off we went with people from Switzerland, Canada, the USA and Germany. Some people are just crazy. This person was hiking on the headlands at Bay Bulls as we passed.

Close up of said hiker. The ride out the bay was nice - you see so many rock formations and it brings to reality the birth of this place called Newfoundland - a very violent birth according to the stories told by the exposed rocks. I caught the lighthouse as we passed.

Before we left the bay, I had already seen 5 or 6 different kinds of seabirds. I love to watch birds at home and have identified 26 species of birds who frequent my backyard. Some of them are here. Some Common Murres (Newfoundlanders call them Turres) were in the water in the right hand photo. Below you'll see a couple puffins in the water. I must have snapped 30 photos trying to capture that puffin on the water. They don't stay still much. A close up is there - isn't he just adorable?
