Adventure Aquarium 2010
On Thursday, we took our one and only granddaughter, Attica, to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden,New Jersey. Everything worked out fine since our son (her dad, Nick) wanted to go to the Union soccer game that night. We wanted to spend the day with Attica since we don't get to see her that often as she lives in Texas.  Her mom and dad are doing a good job with her - she has a healthy sense of humor and is still a kid at age 11. Such a delight!

So we picked up Alison, Nick's friend and Attica and went over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to New Jersey. You can take a river taxi over but it's a good thing we didn't. I thought 3 hours at the Aquarium would be sufficiant to explore, but I was wrong. Three hours was
not enough time! If we had taken the ferry, we wouldn't have seen much at all. There's a lot that goes on in the Aquarium!
The building is divided up into four main sections of animals/habitats, A B C and D, with the obligatory Gift Shop (which is HUGE!) and a cafeteria. We started with the hippos in section D. The sharks are in this section also and it was Shark Week so we went to see what all the hype was about. The first thing we saw were birds! They have free-flying birds in the room with the hippos and the African porcupine. This little yellow one either built a nest or had is constructed for him/her. There are other birds there, I think these next ones are cattle egrets.I didn't see the porcupine at all!
That is a hippo, under the water at the hippowash where dozens of tiny fish are cleaning him off.
