Great Big Sea in
Readington , NJ
Sea of No Cares - Of all the songs you hear at the show, this is the one which sticks in your head on the way home, as you get ready for bed, whenever your subconscious mind is taking over. Definitely catchy.

A
fter the song Alan starts singing and playing "Almost Heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River..."
(the audience sings along).
Alan: Hey! Let's do the chorus! "Country Roads, take me home, to the place I belong, West Virginia, Mountain Mama, take me home country roads."
(The audience carries the tune with Alan playing the chords)

Old Black Rum - This was the third time I noticed Bob doing a little rap thing during the chorus!
Alan, Darrell, Sean: Well the Old Black rum's got a hold on me
Bob:(said, not sung)Well the Old.........................She's got a hold..
Alan, Darrell, Sean:  Like a dog wrapped 'round my leg
Bob:(said, not sung)Like a dog ...................'round my leg

General Taylor
Alan: Is this anywhere near the ocean? No? Well it should be.... Oh No! I'm not saying that the sea should wash over the park, inundated, like the great Biblical flood. Oh no! I'm not saying that at all! Just that ...
Sean: ...that's what happened to Paddy Murphy! Washed away in the great flood!
Alan: (shakes his head laughing) Ladies and Gentlemen, Sean McCann, Shanty man to sing you a shanty.

Lukey - I love the way Bob does the echo thing "Lukey's Boat is painted green" This week is the first I have noticed it. Sort of the same routine for Old Black Rum But when the b'ys sing Ah ha me b'ys a riddle ay day. Bob just repeats, saying not singing "Lukey's boat is painted green, Prettiest boat you've ever seen."
Own True Way - Yay! We got to hear it again! They played it in Long Island and in Baltimore, but not at the World Trade Center or Haddon Heights. This is a wonderful song. I think I like it better than Sea of No Cares.

After the song, I forget what the context was, but while Alan was talking, Bob did this little picking thing on the bouzouki - telling him to get on with it, I guess.

Alan: Bob speaks!...He speaks bouzouki.
Bob: Smiles and nods and strums some more, makes weird noises with the bouzouki by moving his fingers up and down the frets, knocks on it a few times with his knuckles, looks at Alan and grins.
Alan: What Bob is saying in translation is...wouldn't it be great...

Consequence Free

I'm A Rover – Well, Darrell wasn't the rover this evening but the intro went on for a while.
Sean: "It's a song about a rover who is hoping that a lady will open her window and let him in. This song goes out to all the ladies with windows that open.
Alan: Hey! We can do this song for our Vegas debut! They always say "For all the ladies in the audience..." Sean: Wayne Newton doing "I'm a Rover"
Alan: "Maybe Celine will do a GBS song! Celine Dion doing "I'm a Rover!" Then he starts singing high soprano, imitating Celine. "No! I shouldn't make fun of that beautiful lady"
Sean: That lady just had a baby. This song goes out to Celine and her baby! Her baby who will grow up to be a rover!"

Jack Hinks
- there were about 10 little kids hanging out right at the stage in front of Alan and Darrell - a little Alan/Darrell fan club. Alan once went right over to them and played. He was sooo cute.

Mari Mac - nice and fast

Ordinary Day

Encore!
Excursion 'Round the Bay
- my favorite trad tune

Tunes - (Feller from Fortune) - I wish they'd just do the whole song and put Bob's instrumental part in the middle. It's such a fun song and they only sing one verse! After the show, Darrell took a picture of the beautiful sunset before walking off the stage.
