Valley Forge
Living History Day
December 2006
The troops stood around waiting for reinforcements. We heard them before we saw them, the cadence of the drummer boy announcing their imminent arrival. Surprisingly, two Native Americans were included in the ranks. I wasn't expecting that!
The black soldiers were free men recruited to fight for the colonists. Most were from the Boston area. An integrated army - a thought that was put in effect for the War for Independence, but needed to be fought for iin the 20th century. Who'd a thought?

As the troops in the rear get ready for battle, a Ranger tells them the British are near.

They line up in the style of the time as the Rangers bombard the British with the "grenades".

The battle has begun!
