Valley Forge
Living History Day
December 2006
The battle raged in the field as several dozen of us civilians stood and watched.
See the drummer boy in the line? I'd meet him later.
The French arrived with whistles and drums. They sure are dressed better!
After they passed to meet General Washington at the Memorial Arch, I stepped into one of the cabins to see the doctor and his tools. He expressed an opinion that the soldiers who ended up here came to die. Anyone who had half a chance went to the military hospital not too far away. He demonstrated hoe to bloodlet and said it was a common treatment in that day for any ailment. Twenty ounces of blood was let at a time and could be done for days in a row.
