My drive home from the venue was an adventure in itself. The directions provided by the Hotel would've been perfect had street signs been visible. They must not want anyone who doesn't "belong" to find their way in and out! Thank God for the GPS and even with it I managed to make a few wrong turns. But I finally found my way on a route number I recognised and that was that! Called Vic to say goodnight, perused my photographs and drifted off to sleep.
Enjoyed that bed immensely I must say and was up in time to enjoy the breakfast in the lobby. Wonderful staff down there, very helpful, even though the breakfast was not free. Came back, took a long hot shower and washed my hair and I was off and running! It was so nice to have this holiday even though Columbus didn't do the Native Americans any service by "discovering" them.
Last night I had mentioned my desire to go to the beach. I was having second thoughts about it because of my trouble navigating Westhampton Beach. What a nice surprise to open an email from Michelle, offering to take me for a tour around Fire Island on my way home. Phone numbers and addresses exchanged, I left for Bay Shore on the LIE and made pretty good time.
Michelle was a little under the weather from a migraine but still offered to tak me around. I quickly accepted as I had not ever seen Fire Island and they had a lighthouse there. I am crazy about lighthouses! Just a 15-20 minute drive had us approaching the causeway that connected Long Island to the barrier islands. |
