I had wondered whether we'd be allowed to take photos, but no one said anything about the camera around my neck so I was heartened to know they'd be allowed this time. I also had my digital recorder with me because I couldn;'t hear properly, figuring I'd listen to it later. But the best laid plans...I had forgotten the memory card - it was sitting in my computer. Oh well! I'd have my photos, right? Wrong! I could barely see a thing when I stood up - just Sean and Bob - and that was when the folks in front of me stopped swaying, dancing, etc. *sigh* No joy in Mudville tonight! This photo is indicative of what I could see when the stars aligned. When it was good, it was very, very good. And when it was bad, it was horrid.I had been wanting to see Sean in his black shirt/vest combination again and got my wish tonight. He could be a model in that outfit! I was anxious to see if Sean would be "on" tonight, as he'd been when the CD was released. He had been ...not that way (for want of a better phrase) for the last few shows.

I had been waiting to see in person the Fortune's Favour backdrop. Very nice! I guess they get some comfort from the cards (a perfect hand in the NFLD card game 120s) but I am sure it puzzles many who see it. I like the visual though, with the wings. Fortune is fleeting, that's for sure. I hope Lady Fortune smiles down on GBS with the release of this album.
I don't think there was too much banter, because there wasn't much time due to the co-headlining thing. They went right into When I'm Up and I got the idea of what kind of show it was going to be. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed they didn't do Process Man first, because the acoustics in this place are out of this world. But Washington DC has always been NUTS about their GBS shows, so I guess When I'm Up had to be second. There was some banter here I didn't catch because of the water in my ears. But Paddy Murphy came third. And I'd wager the man we talked to who hadnt seen them since TURN was having a great time so far. After Paddy Murphy, Sean started to talk about Eddie From Ohio and how we should stick around to hear them. I don't think he was finished speaking when all of a sudden, Alan said, "This is Here and Now," and counted them i! I wondered why he did that and if he could hear with his earpiece, because he really did interrupt Sean. About here, the smoke machine began spewing. Ugh! Not a good thing for picture-taking.

During the song, which was well received, Bob seemed to be looked around the audience, checking out how many were here, I guess. He seemed bolstered by the attendance and seemed really into it. His harmonica came out but I still couldn't hear it over the guitars and drums. When Here and Now finished, Alan announced that the place was sold out to the doors. I turned around, and lo and behold, the place was just about full! I had not turned around in about a half hour so it surprised me. At several points in the evening, they turned onte audience lights to show their reactions to the music. I understand that at the Philly Folk Festival, they couldn't see anyone in the audience and had no idea how they were being accepted. That crowd was way more demonstrative than this one. It's a shame they never knew.
