GBS at Wolf Trap
After Jack Hinks, they took a break from singing and we got some banter. I didn't get the reason why Alan was saying that "this DC thing is confusing." It may have been because they were trying to figure out what state they were in. Wolf Trap in in Virginia, but Washington, DC is in neither Maryland nor Virginia - it is not in any state, but an entity unto itself. They said they had no equivalent in Canada. And somone in the audience yelled "Brigus South!" Alan and Sean had a good laugh about that. Alan commented that Petty Harbour could probably fit entirely into the confines of the venue. Sean suggested that most of St. John's wold fit within the Wolf Trap land area. And Alan added that he was certain that Brigus South would fit into the FIlene Centre. All of a sudden Alan began speaking about how Brigus South was represented in  the house tonight and how he's always wanted to do a hip hop shout out like  "Yo yo (something something ) in the Sout' "

And then Sean began speaking about how Brigus was one of many quaint names of Newfoundland towns. He rattled off "Come By Chance" (cue laughter) Alan adds, "Mount Pearl" Sean continues, "Spread Eagle, and then there's Dildo (cue much laughter) and South Dildo." And Alan swings in there with "Petty Harbour."  At first I thought Alan's choices were strange, but then I got it! "Mount Pearl" could be a very intriguing vision if we are talking about a Friday night date. But I thought the addition of Petty Harbour was a stretch, given the theme of the other town names.
I was surprised that even though the next photo is a bit blurred, you can still tell how blue Bob's eyes are.And I swear I can see Murray's blue eyes there, too. Zoom lenses are good!
And then the conversation went in another direction entirely into how they had no shows sceduled for tomorrow and the next song was from the new album called Fortune's Favour. After Sean dedicated the next song to his brother Kevin, who lives and works in Washington DC. And then they immediately launched into the loveliest  England I have ever heard. Oh my God! I was mezmerized. The venue was made for this gentle acoustic singing. Bob's whistle sounded clear and sweet, Alan's gutiar picking was beautiful, everyone's harmonies rang clear and the crowd was silently appreciating the song.  Big applause afterwards! Sean usually dedicates General Taylor to his brother so I figured we wouldn't be hearing about the General tonight. Boy was I wrong!
"I could be Vice King!"
